UnitedHealthcare Medicare Advantage FAQ

Conway Regional is dedicated to serving its community, but United Healthcare is currently paying competitors significantly more for the same care. This issue has been a focal point during negotiations with United Healthcare. As medical care costs continue to rise, it is important for Conway Regional to receive a fair market rate in order to provide the care our patients deserve. Our goal as a health care system is to be accountable to the community and provide high-quality, compassionate health care services. To achieve this, we depend on accountable healthcare partners.
Conway Regional maintains that negotiations with United have been in good faith. A proposed increase is because of increased costs for staffing, medical supplies, and essential services.
Certain patients may be eligible to receive their care at in-network rates. This applies to patients receiving ongoing medical treatment and those with newly diagnosed or relapsed cancer. To continue their care at Conway Regional or an affiliated facility/provider, these patients are required to submit a Continuity of Care form via fax or mail to United. To determine if you qualify, please contact United Healthcare Customer Service at 1-866-272-1967.
This termination affects Conway Regional Health System, including the medical center in Conway, Arkansas, the Conway Regional Rehabilitation Hospital, Dardanelle Regional Medical Center, over 100 employed and integrated providers, and physicians in the Conway Regional Physician Hospital Organization in the central Arkansas area.
Conway Regional, along with other healthcare providers, has urged United Healthcare to raise its reimbursement rates due to the increasing costs of care. Health systems across the state and country have faced challenges in negotiation with UnitedHealthcare publicly.
If in-network access to Conway Regional and its physicians is important to you, please talk to your insurance broker.
Out-of-network care generally requires patients to pay a larger portion or the entire cost of their healthcare or procedure, instead of having it mostly covered by their insurance policy. As a result, routine care necessary for a healthy community can become expensive, potentially costing patients hundreds or even thousands of dollars.
Conway Regional has communicated to United Healthcare that we have been serving the community for over 100 years, providing high-quality care at affordable prices. Since United Healthcare is based in Minneapolis, Conway Regional feels they may not fully understand the needs of local patients and should learn more about the community.
After a global pandemic, the healthcare industry is facing challenges such as staff turnover, difficulty in recruiting new employees, rising inflation costs, and a shortage of nurses and physicians nationwide. Insurers engaging in these unnecessary games create distractions and additional obstacles for patients who depend on us to provide timely care for them and their families.

Since 2021, federal law has required hospitals to publicly disclose their standard prices and negotiated discounts for common health services. This aims to encourage consumers to compare prices and promote competition. This rule also allows hospitals to know the rates other hospitals receive from insurance providers, which is a new development.

Despite Conway Regional's longstanding commitment to serving the community, United Healthcare is currently paying our closest competitor nearly 50% more for the same care. This significant difference in reimbursement is hard to justify for Conway Regional and our 2,000 employees.

For over 100 years, Conway Regional has been the community's healthcare provider, aiming to deliver high-quality care while responsibly managing healthcare expenses. Being a provider that offers both affordability and quality has been a consistent aspect of Conway Regional's history. Patient care and serving the community remain top priorities for Conway Regional.
