Ellen Smith, CCC-SLP, was recently recognized with the BEE Award for the compassionate care she provided to a NICU family during their journey.

As a speech-language pathologist serving patients in the NICU, Ellen was nominated by a family who experienced firsthand the dedication and compassion she brings to her role each day. Their baby, born three weeks early with Down syndrome, spent an extended period of time in the NICU learning to breathe and eat independently. Throughout every challenge and milestone, Ellen remained a steady source of encouragement and support.

From celebrating feeding milestones to offering reassurance during difficult moments, Ellen’s impact extended far beyond therapy sessions. The family shared that she consistently demonstrated genuine love, patience, and dedication while caring not only for their child but also for them.
