Therapist Earns BEE Award for Her Compassion

“She puts 100 percent of her heart and soul into her job. She treats everyone the same and is soft-spoken but passionate about her job,” reads the nomination for the BEE Award for Lacy Knox. The nomination gave several examples of her compassion toward the speech therapy patients who are treated at the center.

It has been said about Lacy Knox that she “wears her heart on her sleeve” when it comes to her patients. She exhibits the kind of compassion that earned her Conway Regional’s Be Excellent Everyday (BEE) award for December.

Lacy is a speech-language pathologist who works at Conway Regional Therapy Services-Salem.

“She puts 100 percent of her heart and soul into her job. She treats everyone the same and is soft-spoken but passionate about her job,” reads her nomination for the BEE Award. The nomination gave several examples of her compassion toward the speech therapy patients who are treated at the center.

Lacy helped a non-verbal patient find a device that enabled him to communicate using his eyes. She helped implement the speech therapy program in the nursery of the Conway Regional Women’s Center. Lacy helped a stroke patient obtain a device that enabled her to speak to her family for the first time in several years.

“She is also very committed to all of her outpatients from coordinating the Speak Out Parkinson’s program to swallowing and voice issues,” added the co-worker who nominated Lacy. She spends numerous hours learning more about the conditions of her patients to better plan for their care.

Conway Regional Therapy Services has three outpatient services locations in Faulkner County and also serves inpatients at Conway Regional Medical Center, Conway Regional Rehabilitation Hospital, and Conway Regional Home Health patients.

The BEE award is given by the Conway Regional Patient Care Governing Congress based on an anonymous selection process. All non-nursing staff members are eligible for the BEE award and patients, family members or co-workers can nominate an employee for the award. Nurses demonstrating exemplary patient care are nominated for the DAISY Award.
