Intensive Care
Conway Regional's Intensive Care Unit (ICU) provides highly specialized care for patients experiencing serious illness, injury, or complex medical conditions. Our ICU is recognized as one of the leading intensive care units in central Arkansas, providing advanced care in a compassionate and supportive environment.
When your loved one is in the ICU, they are cared for by a multidisciplinary team of highly trained healthcare professionals, including physicians, nurses, respiratory therapists, pharmacists, and other specialists. Our team works together to provide continuous observation, monitoring, and specialized treatment tailored to each patient's individual needs.
Patients may be admitted to the ICU from the Emergency Department, operating room, another area of Conway Regional, or transferred from another hospital when a higher level of care is needed.
Patients in the ICU may be recovering from or experiencing:
- Respiratory conditions, such as pneumonia or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)
- Congestive heart failure (CHF) and other serious cardiac conditions
- Surgery requiring close observation and intensive monitoring
- Liver disease or other complex medical conditions
- Complications related to cancer treatment
- Stroke and other neurological conditions
- Serious wounds, lacerations, or traumatic injuries
- Multiple or complex medical conditions requiring a higher level of care
Visiting the ICU
We recognize that having family and loved ones nearby can be an important part of a patient's recovery. To help provide a safe, restful environment for our patients while allowing time for family and friends to visit, the following visitation guidelines apply:
- Medical patients: Two visitors are permitted at a time from 7:00 aam to 9:00 pm From 9:00 pm to 7:00 am, one visitor is permitted at a time.
- Children: Children under the age of 12 are not permitted in the ICU.
- Behavioral health patients: Visitors may be permitted following evaluation and approval by behavioral health staff and/or the consulting psychiatrist.
Visitation may be adjusted based on a patient's condition or other safety considerations. Our team will work with patients and families to help ensure that visitation supports the patient's care and well-being.
Transitioning From the ICU
Admission to the ICU is based on a physician's determination that a patient requires close observation, specialized monitoring, or intensive treatment that cannot be provided in a lower level of care.
Our goal is to provide each patient with the highest level of care while supporting their recovery and keeping their loved ones informed throughout the process. As a patient's condition improves and intensive care is no longer required, they may be transferred to a regular hospital room or to our Cardiac Step-Down Unit, where they can continue to receive appropriate monitoring and care as they recover.
