State Insurance Commissioner to speak at Health Luncheon Jan. 7

 CONWAY-(December 27, 2013)-State Insurance Commissioner Jay Bradford will be the guest speaker for the Conway Regional Women’s Council’s second annual State of Health Luncheon on Tuesday, Jan. 7.

The luncheon will include a presentation by Mr. Bradford on the Affordable Care Act and the effects of healthcare reform and an update by Conway Regional Health System President and CEO Jim Lambert on Conway Regional’s Community Health Needs Assessment Report and action plans. The luncheon will be held from 11:30 am to 1 pm in the UCA Student Center Ballroom.

 Mr. Bradford was appointed insurance commissioner in January of 2009 by Gov. Mike Beebe and has decades of experience in the insurance industry. He also served for two years as director of the Behavioral Health Services Division of DHS. Mr. Bradford was a member of the Arkansas Legislature for 24 years where he was elected Speaker Pro Tempore of the House and President Pro Tempore of the Senate.

 Some of the highlights of his legislative career include:

  •  He was the chief sponsor of the Tobacco Settlement Funding Bill, legislation which resulted in Arkansas being the only state in the nation to mandate all the settlement monies be used for healthcare.
  •  He also served as lead Senate sponsor of breast care legislation which resulted in millions of dollars being made available for the prevention and treatment of breast cancer.
  • He achieved numerous honors and awards during his service to the citizens of Arkansas, including the 2006 Arkansas Business Executive of the Year.
