CONWAY-(July 22, 2013)-Breastfeeding mothers now have additional support in Conway. The Conway Regional Great Start Lactation Club for expectant, new and experienced mothers will meet for the first time at 10 am Saturday, July 27, in the Conference Room of the medical center.
The lactation club will surround mothers with a group of like-minded women to provide support, advice, best practices and other assistance to help with nursing their babies. The group will also recognize milestones in the babies’ lives and perform infant weight checks. Light refreshments will be served and the group is open to all expectant moms, new moms and experienced moms who want to breastfeed their babies.
Lactation consultant Linda Pabin, RN, encourages women who have not decided whether to breastfeed to “stop in for one of our meetings and learn about the ups and downs of nursing from an experienced mom.” Pabin and Teresa Gates, RN, who consults in the Conway Regional program on Saturdays, hold International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) certifications.
The IBCLC is an independent international certification body for lactation specialists. The free lactation club will meet the fourth Saturday of each month. The Conway Regional Lactation program also offers provides a store for purchase of items for breastfeeding. For more details, call Pabin or Gates at 501-513-5721.
