Rhonda Monfee, a registered clinical dietician, has been named the new diabetes education coordinator for Conway Regional Health System.
The diabetes educator’s role is to provide tools through education which create a productive wellness lifestyle to assist individuals in managing diabetes, which is a chronic medical condition. Ms. Monfee has been a diabetes educator for the past seven years.
“It’s my passion,” said Ms. Monfee. “A large part of diabetes management is from a food perspective and that is very helpful with my background as a clinical dietician.”
“We feel Rhonda’s expertise and knowledge will be a valuable asset while participating in the education and care of these patients,” said Jacquelyn Wilkerson, RN, Director of Women’s and Infant’s Services. She noted that Ms. Monfee is continuing Conway Regional’s ongoing goals of enhancing services to diabetes patients on both an inpatient and outpatient basis. The program includes outpatient classes and a support group which are designed to teach people how to manage diabetes.
Ms. Monfee is also a freelance writer for Arkansas newspapers on wellness, motivation, and diabetes. In addition, she has been involved with AETN’s wellness segments on “Fighting Fat in Arkansas.”
Tuesday and Thursday classes are being scheduled weekly and Saturday classes are currently being scheduled monthly.
Diabetes education services require a physician referral. Appointments can be scheduled at 450-2244 and referrals can be faxed to 513-5873. For any questions, please call Rhonda at 513-5248.
