New test uncovering the cause of allergy symptoms
Spring is in full bloom for allergy sufferers bringing the sinus conditions, coughing, headaches and general misery typical of allergies in Arkansas. In many cases it is not easy to determine what particular allergen is causing the attack.
However, a new allergy testing device now available at Conway Regional is able to detect most common allergens including grass pollen, tree pollen, dust mites, cat dander, mold, dog dander, weed pollen and others. Profiles have been developed to detect the most common food and environment allergens found in Arkansas. The test can also detect the allergic triggers for asthma attacks.
The ImmunoCAP test is administered when patients are experiencing symptoms and involves a blood test in either the physician’s office or at one of the Conway Regional Clinical Laboratory locations.
Test results are usually available within a week.
A physician’s order is required for the test which is covered by most insurance carriers.
In addition to physicians’ offices, blood samples can be collected at the Main Laboratory of Conway Regional Medical Center, Mayflower Medical Clinic, Conway Medical Group, Greenbrier Family Medicine, Reddy Medical Clinic in Clinton, and at the Conway Regional Outpatient Imaging Center.
Allergy sufferers who are interested in the ImmunoCAP test should contact their primary care doctors.
