Local business executive new Chairman of the Board of Conway Regional Health System
Bob Gant, a native of Conway and President of Delta Technologies, Inc., is the new chairman of the Board of Directors for Conway Regional Health System. Margaret Beasley, MD, has led the health system board as chairperson for the past two years.
In addition to the Conway Regional Board of Directors, Mr. Gant was recently appointed president of the Arkansas Association of Hospital Trustees and as such serves on the Arkansas Hospital Association Board of Directors. He has taken a leadership position at Conway Regional and in state healthcare during changing economic and political times.
“What the future holds for health care is uncertain due to the country’s economic conditions and transition of national leadership. We could be faced with some cuts in Medicare, probably cuts in Medicaid; these are going to be very challenging times for us in health care,” Mr. Gant said. “Everyone is taking a wait-and-see approach to healthcare right now.”
“This is my way of giving back to the community that has nurtured me. I have always felt a love for Conway. I do things out of what we can do for the community, for Conway,” said Mr. Gant. “At the time I started, we knew Conway was going to grow but we did not know it was going to grow as fast as it has. The hospital has grown right along with it. I think everybody is proud of how we have expanded our services and facilities and how our employment has grown.”
Jim Lambert, Conway Regional President and CEO said, “I would like to express deep gratitude to Dr. Beasley for her outstanding service during a time of complex issues and changes for Conway Regional. Healthcare can be a tough industry and her experience as a physician and strong leadership ability has helped this health system tremendously. We are all looking forward to Mr. Gant’s term as Board Chair and stand ready together to face new growth, and the challenges that come with that growth, as we strive to carry out our mission of providing high-quality, compassionate care for this community.”
In another change to the board of directors, Bart Throneberry, MD, a primary care physician, has been appointed to replace Bob Blankenship who retired from the Board as of December 31. Dr. Throneberry served as Chief of the Conway Regional Medical Staff from 2005 to 2006. He has served on numerous medical care committees at the hospital and was instrumental in establishing the Interfaith Clinic in Conway, which allows medically and financially needy individuals to pay for discounted or free health care services.
“We really appreciate the expertise that Mr. Blankenship brought to our board and especially his leadership on our Building Committee which has overseen several past and present expansion projects and has planned for future facility needs for our health system,” said Jim Lambert. “We are also excited to have Dr. Throneberry at the board level of the health system to lend his unique perspective and guidance.”
The 2009 Conway Regional Health System Board of Directors are: Bob Gant, Chairman; Jack Engelkes, Vice Chairman; Dr. Margaret Beasley; Ray Kordsmeier; Bob McCormack; Donna Hambuchen; Dr. Rick McCarron; Mark Ferguson; Jerry Adams; Dr. Bart Throneberry and Jim Lambert.
