What to Expect

During Your Stay

At Conway Regional Rehabilitation Hospital, we are honored that you have made the choice to utilize our services during your time of need.  Our nurses and support staff will strive to make your stay as pleasant as possible.

What is an Acute Rehabilitation Hospital?

An acute rehabilitation hospital is a hospital that provides care to a special population of patients, young and old, who, through illness or injury, have suffered a decline in functional skills, including the inability to walk.  Most of these patients are able to return to the community and home with family after a short stay of 10 - 12 days.  On average, 76% of the hospital's patients return home.

Roy Denton, MD, is the Medical Director.  He has worked in a rehabilitation setting for more than 20 years.

Conway Regional Rehabilitation Hospital is a 26-bed unit where the medical director and primary admitting doctor are board-certified in physical medicine and rehabilitation.  The physician must round on the patients no less than three days per week, and in fact, averages five days a week and provides 24/7 medical coverage.  All patients are seen by the physician within 24 hours of admission.  The medical director works with an interdisciplinary team which consists of licensed therapists (occupational therapists, physical therapists, speech and recreational therapists), nurses, social workers, case management and dietary, all of whom are interactive with one another throughout the day.  Acute rehabilitation hospitals are mandated to provide three hours of therapy per day at a minimum of five days per week.

Patient Assessment

Typical patients will include patients rehabilitating from hip and knee surgeries, strokes, brain injury, spinal cord injury, amputees, major multiple trauma, congenital deformities, and burns. Depending on the patient's illness or injury the individualized plan of care could include:

  • Rehabilitation Medicine
  • Rehabilitation Nursing
  • Physical Therapy
  • Occupational Therapy
  • Therapeutic Recreation
  • Speech and Language Pathology
  • Social Work/Case Management

  • Orthotic & Prosthetic Consultations
  • Community Re-entry Program

Television:  A television is provided in each patient room at no extra charge.  Conway Corporation provides cable service allowing our patients the opportunity to view stations including but not limited to: local television, USA, ABC Family, ESPN, E!, TV Land, Nickelodeon, Discovery and VH1.  Please be considerate of others by keeping the volume low.

Smoking: Arkansas Law (Act 134) prohibits smoking anywhere on Conway Regional Rehabilitation Hospital property.  Violation of Act 134 is a Class C Misdemeanor.  Please assist Conway Regional in complying with the law by not smoking anywhere in the hospital, including your room.

Telephone:  Telephones are provided in all patient rooms.  Local calls may be completed by dialing "9" before the number.  Unit staff may be reached by dialing ext. 3558.  Your family and friends may call you by dialing (501) 932-3___ then your three digit room number.  This will be a direct line to the telephone next to your bed.

Calling a nurse:  A nurse call button is located at each bed.  Pushing the button will notify the nursing station that assistance is needed.  Your call may be answered through an intercom system that allows you to speak to someone at the nursing station.  All patient bathrooms have either a nurse call cord or a button.  Use of either will notify the nursing station that assistance is needed.

Visiting Hours:  Visitors are welcome daily after 4:00 pm and by arrangement at other times.  We encourage families to observe or participate in therapy sessions and recreational activities at the treatment team's discretion.  At certain times, family members, significant and/or certified others may be asked to wait until a therapy session is over before visiting.  Children are welcome but must be accompanied by an adult.  For the sake of your health and that of others in the unit, please discourage visitors who may have colds or other communicable conditions from coming for a visit.
